Tier 1: Informal Assistive Technology Assessment


    • This process is appropriate for families and/or school teams who have some prior knowledge of AT tools, and are looking to proactively use AT in their classroom/homes. This is a dynamic exploratory process for quickly determining AT tools and strategies.
    • Families and school teams that request this process:
      • Have already identified areas of need and specific tasks which the student needs support to access.
      • Want to consider specific tools that they do not have access to yet.
      • Have questions about tools that are already being used.
      • Have struggled with identifying how to use available tools appropriately.
      • Have challenges despite attempting to implement AT strategies.
    • There is no written summary provided for this consideration. The focus is solely on supporting the team with appropriate strategies to explore and implement AT tools.
    • Time allotted for this process: Variable, typically at least 4-6 hours.
    • What to expect:
      • Email, phone, and/or in-person conversations with team members
      • Classroom observation as needed
      • Tool explorations as needed
    • To do list:
      • Complete both the school and the parent intake questionnaires
      • Complete info, photo/video release forms
      • Submit forms and a Payment Contract (ex. PO, ISA)
